Are all Chimney Liners the same?

There will be only small differences between flexible stainless steel chimney liners produced by various manufacturers.

Most notably will be a difference in the make up of the steel, with some manufacturers leaving out the titanium. The designs of the various liners will be very similar. Some manufacturers claim that their products have greater flexibility due to steep hills and valley in their product.

The strength of the leading manufacturer’s liners is usually quite sufficient for most people. It does not, for instance, need to withstand the weight of a very large man. Once the liner has been installed, there is no weight at all pushing against it. So while many manufacturers claim to have a strong product, strength is not really an issue most of the time when you are speaking of chimney liners.

The components included in the liner kits will vary with the manufacturer. While some use a combination of clamps and screws, others use only one or the other. The tab and clip system has been patented by Transcontinental Equipment for use in their systems. This makes the liner kit very easy to install, even if you have tight bottom termination areas. While the components may be different, the liner itself will be identical to those offered by other manufacturers.

A job only for the pros?
While it is possible to do this job yourself, it really is best left to the professionals. For those determined to do it themselves, they should spend sufficient time researching various manufacturers and the products they supply.
