Chimney History

No matter the size, traditional chimneys were usually built using brick.

Although we see the Romans using tubes in the walls to draw smoke out of bakeries, we do not see real chimneys until the 13th century in Europe. It is not until the 18th century that we see the emergence of industrial chimneys.

No matter the size, traditional chimneys were usually built using brick. In the beginning we see just a simple brick construction, with liners surrounded by brick slowing becoming the standard. Sometimes we see chimney pots (a form of venting cap) placed on top of the chimney to avoid downdrafts.
